A letter from the President – Herkimer Diamond Mines Welcome to the Herkimer Diamond Mines, where diamonds become everybody’s best friend. As we enter our 53rd season, we are excited to offer great amenities with great people for a great memorable experience. Turning the calendar to a new year is always an event filled with excitement for me because it carries promise and energy for a successful and invigorating season, especially this year! What’s new for 2008? We have recently produced a new line of jewelry with Herkimer Diamonds – clear, smoky and black! We have also purchased materials from a variety of mines worldwide. We already have the largest jewelry shopping experience in upstate New York and our discounts are unmatchable. We are reminded daily that deals, as well as diamonds, are a girls best friend. The Diamond Mines are now offering diamonds from Australia, Russia and Africa at standard discounts of 30%. Engagement rings, earrings, pendants, and bracelets in multiple colored diamonds can now be purchased or custom ordered. We have always offered these products, but now we are launching a much larger opportunity for our customers. Our wholesale and retail offerings are year round. Our KOA Kampground has a variety of new amenities. Outdoor outings are now a part of the Herkimer experience. In addition to fly fishing, craw fishing, and tubing in the West Canada Creek, we will now offer kayaking lessons. Our new 50 amp sites and pull through sites are in demand. Our five new Diamond Sites are exquisite on the water with patio and culinary amenities as well as furnishings. Our new boulder tent sites area gives the kamper a choice of water front or more secluded areas. Of course, our Friday evening pizza and fish fry deliveries on the hour will continue with our night walks, flashlight candy hunt and ice cream socials. Check out our weekend themed activities as well as our HOT DEALS. We are an award wining KOA and a recipient of the Presidents Award from the KOA system. Our customer service surveys indicate that our guests are pleased with our real time reservation system. In fact 60% prefer to make a confirmed reservation using the Internet. Customers have also been very receptive to our wireless environment. Retirees can now check their e-mails, campers can minimize their workload and teenagers can talk to boy and girl friends. The times…..they are changing! Our 16th Rock and Gem Summer Camp will undoubtedly be a highlight for 2008. With two options this year, July 14 – 18 and July 21 – 25, we will offer a session for 6 – 11 year olds and a second session for 12 – 14 year olds for each week. Science is unquestionably made fun! We are pleased to say that most of our experienced Camp Counselors for 2007 are, again, returning. Our Boy Scout Jamboree is scheduled for October 24 - 26. In 2007 we conferred over 400 Geology Merit Badges. We are hopeful to exceed that figure this year. We are excited about our Girl Scout Weekend scheduled for October 17-19. We have assembled more opportunities for Girl Scout badges. Inquire about our 2008 School Special and Home Schooled special outing. Although we welcome schools, scouts and other groups everyday from April 15 through October 31st, we do have a number of specific concentrated programs. The Diamond Mines themselves have had their annual cleaning to expose more diamonds for our prospectors. A commercial mining site will be in operation for all to observe throughout the season. Our Fossiling Sluice will offer more extended fossils this year! Every Saturday, the mines will sponsor a Treasure Hunt, Jewelry Class, and Prospector’s Find Contest, Plus free lemonade……you simply need to follow the yellow rock road. Our Diamond Café, Crystal Chandelier Restaurant, and our Prospectors Pavilion are available for your dining pleasure. And, of course, our Museum and Rock Shop has something for everyone!
